AVICO Yemen ops on behalf of Red Cross (ICRC)

23.10.2020

Last 15-16 October 2020, AVICO was tasked by ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) to provide aircraft’s to transport 833 ex. prisoners from different airports in Yemen after negotiations between parties led by the United Nations.

It has been a challenging requirement to meet as all aircraft’s involved in this operation would have to depart exactly at the same time from different Yemeni airports.

Up to a few hours before take-off, operation was still on standby as negotiations were ongoing until last minute, requiring extreme agility from an operational perspective.

Once green light has been given, our 2 chartered aircraft’s left JIB airport (Djibouti–Ambouli International Airport) to start operations base Yemen over 2 days operating in total 8 legs with ex.prisoners between Yemeni airports and some Saudi airports.

This operation to bring Yemeni citizens back to their homes has been a success and more details can be found here on a more detailed bbc article.

AVICO team handling Special Flights operations such as this one would like to thank ICRC for their trust on this important mission and also our provider who successfully performed this challenging mission.
